Synopsis

The Aurellian Empire needed a husband for Princess Isolde, and a martial tournament was the chosen mechanism. It pulled the strongest mages out of the Northern Kingdoms and placed them on imperial ground, which is exactly the kind of situation where someone like Lucien becomes invisible by design. Nobody at that tournament was looking at him. They had already formed their opinion, and it was consistent across everyone who had ever encountered him: no ability, no standing, not worth the attention. Then a Northern rogue started tearing through the streets outside the tournament grounds, and before any of the gathered talent could respond, a single spell reduced him to nothing. Kael, the First Mage of Aurelian and the person in the empire best positioned to understand what that spell represented, understood immediately that the person who cast it was operating at a level he had never personally witnessed. He began working through the nobility systematically, looking for whoever was hiding that capability behind a public face. The answer sitting at the end of that investigation was Lucien. The same Lucien that Kael himself had dismissed. The same nobody that every court function, every tournament, and every social gathering had treated as an embarrassment to be ignored. The fifty episodes that follow are not about Lucien proving himself to people who doubted him. They are about what happens when the gap between who someone actually is and who the world decided to see them as becomes impossible for the world to maintain.
