Synopsis

Irene grows up in a noble Athenian house where her own family treats her like a burden, and when a marriage ceremony arrives, her stepsister rigs the outcome so Irene is handed to a penniless wandering bard while keeping the desirable match for herself. Everyone laughs at the girl who got stuck with a beggar. What none of them realize is that the ragged man at her side is Apollo, the Light God, moving through the mortal world in disguise. As Irene's relatives push her toward ruin with their cruelty, they are slowly provoking a deity who watches every insult land on the woman he has quietly chosen. The gap between how worthless they think her husband is and what he actually commands drives the entire story toward a reckoning nobody in that family is prepared for.
